Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Viewers In the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The exciting extended contest that saw the Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total 51M viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 edition showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable game drew 27.33M audience members on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase over the last finale between the Nationals and Astros, which attracted 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked fourth, the fourth game was 7th, the fifth game came in 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Viewership Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged over 11 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language program in the country since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12 million. This followed last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six frames – drew over 13 million viewers, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-match World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two straight years.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached over 16 million. The total Fall Classic viewership in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best postseason ratings since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was broadcast in 203 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen various languages.
